White Label facilitate Croydon Constructing Excellence Club’s AGM

Croydon is recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic and 2021 is bringing exciting opportunities for change, Croydon Constructing Excellence Club’s AGM has heard.

At the White Label-facilitated event, Club Chairman Stephen Parker from Willmott Dixon, praised the club for keeping people together throughout the pandemic with events and networking, as well as promoting the business development of construction companies and supply chain in Croydon.

Leader of Croydon Council, Councillor Hamida Ali, said the borough was now in a period of recovery and focused and committed in vision, after the challenges of 2020. She told guests the council was continuing to work towards a stable financial position and that there were exciting opportunities ahead. These opportunities include the opening of London South Bank University’s Croydon campus at Electric House this September, a partnership which will develop the knowledge sector and build a relationship with Croydon College.

A programme of cultural and community events is also scheduled for 2023, when Croydon will be London’s Borough of Culture. Lucy Webb, the council’s Head of Regeneration, presented the visions which have been drawn up to shape place-making and economies of district centres including South Norwood, Thornton Heath and Purley.

Develop Croydon Chairman, Richard Plant, said 2,625 units were currently under construction in the borough, and showcased Taberner House, where 513 flats are being constructed across four towers – and Ruskin Square, soon to be the HQ of HM Revenue and Customs, where work is continuing on another three commercial buildings. The Constructing Excellence Club is a non-profit organisation charged with driving the change agenda in construction, giving members the opportunity to participate in agenda setting and research.
