I recently helped our team learn more about the importance of Search Engine Optimisation (SEO). Which aids in the organic visibility of a web page in a search engine, like Google.
Search engine traffic can be extremely powerful for a business as it is very specific and high-intent. Your company may need blog post views, product or ticket purchases or even app or content downloads, all these things can happen only if people are able to reach your website.
Regardless of what search engine you use, search results are constantly changing. Google runs constant updates and the way they rank results is affected by their algorithm. The most recent changes to their algorithm, include analysing your website for unique, quality content and user engagement. It’s incredible to think that Google processes 40,000 search queries per second.
Now for implementing SEO, here is my recommended 5-step process:
- Keyword research & keyword targeting
Identify the keywords and phrases people are searching for and that you want linked to your website, to help with search engine ranking. You can use Google’s own Keyword tool. You then need to use these targeted words across the content of your website and in your metadata. - On-page SEO
There are many things that you could be maintaining across your pages. Some of these are having a compelling meta description, having unique content that is shareable, using alt attributes to increase accessibility and making sure your links are descriptive. - Site organisation & internal linking
It’s important to organise your website – how each page links to the next – in a clear manner for users. Search engines also observe the text you use to link out to pages and the more you link to a specific page this would be noted by search engines as the more important page on your website. Linking to other pages on your website keeps users browsing, they may find some useful information, or read a relevant article just through a curious click on a link within a page. - Content marketing & link building
External links to your website are a top priority. A great way to help with this is to focus on marketing approaches such as creating and promoting useful content and engaging articles on your website. Talk about a popular subject in your industry, and highlight a supplier or a customer. - Technical SEO
There are a few technical things that can be taken care of. These are page speed, mobile friendliness, making sure there is no duplicate content, having an SSL certificate for security, proper redirects and a clear XML sitemap.
Hopefully, these tips also help boost your business. It’s important to remember that consistency is key to seeing results. With the right strategies and dedication, you can create a successful website for your business.
