Develop Croydon continues to champion the borough’s growth, creativity and ambition

In recent months, Develop Croydon has marked several major milestones as it prepares for its annual conference, Croydon: Game On, taking place at Fairfield Halls on Thursday 6 November

As the conference approaches, Develop Croydon has unveiled updates to its website, including a refreshed main page and an updated “Why Croydon” section. The redesign reflects the organisation’s evolving narrative, aligning with the UK’s Modern Industrial Strategy, released earlier this year. The new look highlights Croydon’s unique position as a centre for innovation, growth and investment within London’s modern economy.

The upcoming conference will delve into key themes shaping Croydon’s future – including the role of policy and funding in housing delivery, growth opportunities in the Croydon Growth Plan, and the borough’s potential as a hub for gaming and creative enterprise. Sessions will also explore the ‘fun economy’ and how Crystal Palace Football Club plays a part in placemaking and attracting inward investment.

September also saw a successful Develop Croydon Investor Tour. The day began with breakfast and networking at Mott MacDonald’s Renaissance Croydon offices, featuring welcome updates from:

  • Richard Plant, Develop Croydon Chair and Partner at SHW Property
  • Vanessa Clark, Develop Croydon Board Member and Managing Partner at Sinclair Clark
  • Executive Mayor of Croydon, Jason Perry
  • Mark Fitch, Regional Director at Mott MacDonald

Attendees then joined an exclusive walking tour, visiting the historic John Whitgift Foundation Almshouses, the newly refurbished Allders shopfront units, and Bernard Weatherill House, home to Croydon Council. The day concluded with refreshments and networking at AMP House, where investors, local businesses, and stakeholders continued discussions about Croydon’s growth and opportunities.

Building on the momentum, Develop Croydon also hosted a Stadium Design and Inward Investment roundtable at Selhurst Park Stadium. The event brought together leading voices from sport, design, construction, and regeneration to explore how stadium-led development can shape Croydon’s regeneration.

Chaired by Rumi Bose, the discussion featured:

  • Mitesh Velani, CFO, Crystal Palace FC
  • Jonty Castle, COO, Crystal Palace FC
  • Daniel Blackburn, Director, KSS Group
  • Chris Edwards, Partner – Head of Health & Safety, Calfordseaden
  • Will Durden, Director, Momentum Transport Planning

The conversation focused on how modern stadium design can drive urban growth, housing, and public realm improvements, create jobs and skills opportunities, and strengthen community identity while attracting long-term investment. A full report on the discussion will be published soon.

With Croydon: Game On just around the corner, Develop Croydon continues to champion the borough’s growth, creativity and ambition, bringing together the people and ideas shaping its future. Concluding with one more exciting thing to look forward to on Conference day will be the next edition of Croydon News, which will offer further insights, interviews and updates on the borough’s continued transformation.
