Croydon College, Coulsdon Sixth Form College and the Croydon University Centre put the focus on careers, skills and the training agenda with a programme of six free virtual events across the month of March.
Supported by White Label, who facilitated the virtual programme, it showcased the wide range of courses and training opportunities available at the Collegiate – giving every Croydon resident aged 16 and above the chance to gain new skills and qualifications.
Fadia Clarke, Vice Principal for Training, Skills and HE, said: ‘We are committed to the future of all Croydon residents and our students, giving them the best start to their careers or providing opportunities for upskilling. In addition, we are proud to be a Kickstart Gateway able to offer Work Placements to 16–24 year olds as well as offering apprenticeships, further training and an increased online learning provision alongside our further and higher education provisions.’
Starting in National Careers Week (1-5 March), Coulsdon Sixth Form College hosted three Career Pathways events throughout the month, each focused on a different range of subjects. Students have had the chance to hear from past students and gain some excellent career insights first-hand from industry speakers.
Croydon University Centre held its second virtual open event of the year on 11 March. Attendees had the chance to learn more about Higher Education opportunities available locally. All courses are validated by the University of Roehampton and many of the tuition fees have remained frozen from last year.
Croydon College’s World of Work team, in partnership with Croydon Constructing Excellence Club and Croydon Commitment’s Ways 2 Work programme, ran a construction and engineering Meet the Employer event on Thursday, 18 March. The event focused on apprenticeship training programmes available and heard from Croydon-based employers including Mott Macdonald, Willmott Dixon, Aecom, L&Q and many more.
The final event of the month on 25 March saw former college students and industry speakers take part in Croydon College’s Career Pathways event to inspire attendees with career tips and insights.
