West London innovation district plans discussed at aviation conference

Far-sighted plans to reimagine the area around Heathrow as a global hub for innovation and a green economic powerhouse have been discussed by leading MPs and private sector experts at the virtual Blue Skies Conference, which was organised by White Label.

Lead by Seema Malhotra, MP for Feltham and Heston and Andrew Dakers, CEO of West London Business, the four-hour virtual conference included leading figures from the public and private sectors to discuss West London’s future and opportunity to ensure a sustainable recovery from the devastating impact COVID-19 has had on individuals, communities and businesses that make up the sub-region’s aviation sector.

At the conference there were keynote speeches from:

  • Seema Malhotra, MP for Feltham and Heston
  • Robert Courts, Parliamentary Under Secretary in the Department for Transport with Responsibility for Aviation, Maritime and Security
  • Niall Bolger, Chief Executive of Hounslow Council
  • Lim Thuan Kuan, Singapore High Commissioner to the United Kingdom
  • Jogoda Egeland, Aviation Lead and Advisor to the International Transport Forum Secretary-General at the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development

John Holland-Kaye, CEO of Heathrow, took part in an ‘in conversation with’-style interview with conference chair Christian Fraser from the BBC.

Other speakers included the Minister for Business, Energy and Clean Growth, Kwasi Kwarteng MP, Chair of the Heathrow Local Recovery Forum, Lord David Blunkett, Professor Julia Buckingham CBE, Vice-Chancellor and President of Brunel University London, Becky Foreman, Microsoft’s Corporate Affairs Director, Cath Shaw, Deputy Chief Executive of Barnet Council, Diana Holland, Assistant General Secretary for Equalities and Transport and Food Industrial sectors at UNITE and Sheldon Hee, General Manager of Singapore Airlines.
