The UK Screen Investment Programme’s Steering Group Committee has shared its views on how to power-up the film/TV sector’s growth, in a series of programme-exclusive, thought-leadership features.
In partnership with Hertfordshire Futures, White Label is leading the initiative which profiles the UK as a global hub of film and TV production, to attract investment and build on the industry’s success in recent years. Sky, Pinewood, Warner Bros and Disney are all based here, and cities such as Bristol, Belfast, Cardiff, Glasgow, Manchester, Liverpool and London, all have screen clusters with outstanding potential for growth.
Steering group members include University of Hertfordshire and Hertfordshire Growth Board – also partners for the programme – Amazon, British Film Institute, Dock 10 MediaCity, Pinewood Studios, Oxygen Studios, RD Studios and Warner Bros Leavesden.
They are sharing their views in a series of features written specifically for the programme – ahead of the UK Screen Investment Summit in September.
They first talked about how a unified cross-sectoral voice backed by government strategy was key to ensuring the sector survives and thrives. Both high-budget production and independents at the lower reaches of the spending scale must be supported across all UK regions, and beyond the screen sector itself, to the wider supply chain. Read more.
The second feature looked at how Government support through a national growth fund and extension of tax relief would further shore up the screen industry’s success and support areas that are experiencing difficulty. Read more.
Further insight will be published in the coming weeks.
