New Southwark business awards launching 2018

New Southwark business awards launching 2018

One of London's richest and most dynamic boroughs will host a prestigious new awards programme in 2018 to celebrate its thriving business community.

The Southwark Business Excellence Awards in association with Lewisham Southwark College are being launched in early February by Southwark Chamber of Commerce, with the support of Southwark Council.

Organised by White Label, the awards aim to recognise and reward the wide range of firms based in the borough, which stretches from Southbank to London Bridge and Surrey Docks in the east, and to Bermondsey, Peckham, Camberwell and Dulwich in the south.

With a population of over 300,000, the area is home to 18,000 businesses, including major international companies and brilliant community businesses. It also boasts world class entertainment and arts venues as well as some of the best eating establishments in the city.

As Southwark continues to transform thanks to a number of regeneration programmes, it is hoped the awards will showcase the achievements of the businesses that are key to the borough's economic success.

"With a rich and diverse business community and an intensive regeneration programme over the past decade, Southwark has become synonymous with growth and development," said Richard Kalmar, Chair of Southwark Chamber.

"The Southwark Business Excellence Awards will promote the area's many business success stories and highlight the entrepreneurs who help to bring prosperity and growth to the borough. They will instil confidence and pride in the borough's business community, as well as encouraging economic growth and marketing Southwark as a world class place to do business."

The awards are free to enter and will be open to all types and sizes of businesses who will undergo a robust and impartial judging process. The winners will be announced at a glittering, black-tie Gala Dinner and Awards Ceremony for 400 people, hosted by a celebrity compere at a top class Southwark venue next summer.

Cllr Johnson Situ, Cabinet Member for Business, Culture and Regeneration, at Southwark Council, said: "Southwark Council values the hugely important role that businesses play in our borough, stimulating our economy and generating jobs and opportunities for local people. We are pleased to support these awards, which will recognise and applaud some of our shining stars."

The inaugural awards are being supported by some of borough's leading businesses, including British Land and headline sponsor Lewisham Southwark College.

Carole Kitching, Principal of Lewisham Southwark College, added: "As one of the top performing colleges in London we are delighted to be sponsoring the recognition of excellence in businesses across Southwark. We work with many individuals and businesses within Southwark, and we're excited to meet and celebrate with the nominees and winners."
