Croydon Business Excellence Awards entries up by 50 per cent

The shortlist has been announced for the record-breaking Croydon Business Excellence Awards 2017 in association with Gatwick Airport.

Entries to the borough's premier awards rose by an astonishing 50% on last year, with more than 200 entries across 14 categories.

More than 85 businesses have now been shortlisted and go forward to the second round of judging in September.

The new Women in Business and Cultural Impact categories proved particularly popular, attracting a high number of entries from across the borough.

The independent adjudicator who drew up the shortlist, Ross Sturley of business consultants, Chart Lane, says the standard of entry across the board this year is outstanding.

Mr Sturley said: "The Croydon Business Excellence Awards go from strength to strength. This year's crop of entries were even harder to judge than last year's, with quality improving across the board. It was particularly good to see such great entries in the new categories too – Women in Business, and Cultural Impact. Entries in those two categories were fantastic, with some amazing stories. I wish all the shortlist the very best of luck!"

The Croydon Business Excellence Awards recognise and reward the successes and achievements of the borough's booming business community, the fastest growing economy in the UK.

Each shortlisted company will now be invited to submit a second round application form before the judging day interviews in September.

The category winners and overall Croydon Business of the Year will be announced at a glittering black-tie event at the Grand Sapphire on Thursday October 5. Tickets for Croydon's party of the year, with a three course dinner, live music, dancing and entertainment, are on sale now at:

The awards are supported by: Gatwick Airport; Croydon Advertiser (event media partner); London Borough of Croydon; AMP Managed Suites; Allianz Global Assistance; Croydon Chamber; Connected Space; Superdrug; Lark Insurance; Wing Yip; Sussex Innovation Centre; Chequers Contract Services; Handelsbanken; Mobile Bar Hire; NatWest; Rise Gallery and Grand Sapphire.
