Want to put your business up in lights? Companies are to be given the help which could lead to them winning a major award at a special event being held at Sussex Innovation Croydon.
Entries are currently being invited for the borough's biggest awards programme, the Croydon Business Excellence Awards, which will culminate in a gala dinner and awards ceremony on Thursday, October 6.
To encourage more entries, a special breakfast session entitled 'Supercharge Your Application for the Croydon Business Excellence Awards' takes place on Wednesday, April 20 (8.30am to 10am) and hosted by Sussex Innovation Croydon, who are based in Number One Croydon and sponsoring the Tech Innovation of the Year category for the second time.
Executive director Mike Herd said: "Technological innovation can happen in any company, of any size and in any sector. The Tech Innovation of the Year award is not just about new start-ups and not just about apps. What we want to see is tech innovation being used to meet a real market need and create a business with real growth potential.
"Sussex Innovation – Croydon will be looking to work with the best new business and technology ideas in the area and helping them reach their potential. This award will identify businesses that show what is possible and are an inspiration to others."
Frank Mukahana, chief executive of Quidcycle, who won the Tech Innovation of the Year winner in 2015, will be among the speakers at the event, providing insight on how to get your message across to the judges and the benefits of being a winner.
"The awards are amazing," he said. "They showcase the diversity of business in Croydon. You see our local business doing stuff in the community but they also keep setting standards and businesses here are getting awards somewhere else too.
"These awards open up so much. We've benefitted from being able to make important connections and we also got new office space out of it which means we are now based in central Croydon."
The breakfast event is relevant to all categories – not just the Tech Innovation – and as well as a presentation by Sussex Innovation's Simon Chuter and Joseph Bradfield on the do's and don't of a successful entry, White Label Creative director Jo Gumb will give a run-down on the entry criteria as well as offering some top tips.
The closing date for entries is May 6 and shortlisted companies will then go forward to a judging day. The awards are organised by White Label Creative. Headline sponsors are Gatwick Airport while other sponsors include Allianz Global Assistance, London Borough of Croydon, Wing Yip, Croydon Business Venture, Sussex Innovation Centre, the Croydon Partnership, the Croydon Advertiser, Platinum business magazine and Croydon Chamber of Commerce.
